Swiss Delegation at the 26th General Council of the World Communion of Reformed Churches

A delegation of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches (FSPC) is representing Switzerland at the 26th General Council of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC), taking place in Leipzig, Germany from June 29 - July 7, 2017. Serge Fornerod, Director for External Relations at the FSPC, is leading the Swiss delegation.

The WCRC holds a General Council of its member churches every seven years. The Council taking place in Leipzig, Germany, from June 29 through July 7, 2017, will pursue the theme “Living God, renew and transform us”. The WCRC member churches have been invited, as usual, to send their delegates, and the FSPC Council has decided to send the following representatives:

• Gottfried Locher, Pastor, FSPC Council President, and President of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE)

• Maria Oppermann, Theologian, Zug

• Susanne Schneeberger Geisler, Pastor, Bern-Jura-Solothurn

• Cécile Pache, Curate, Vaud

• Sarah Nicolet, Pastor, Bern-Jura-Solothurn

• Catherine McMillan, Pastor, Ambassador for the Reformation Anniversary, Reformed Church of Canton Zurich

• Serge Fornerod, Pastor, Director for External Relations at the FSPC and Delegation Leader.

The members of the Swiss delegation will maintain a blog to report on their meetings and impressions during the event. The WCRC purposely chose the homeland of Luther for its General Council during the year marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. In addition to a deepening of the understanding and unity of the Reformed churches (as a communion), the gathering will grapple with the project to integrate further Reformation-based churches into the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification that the Lutheran World Federation and the Roman Catholic Church signed in 1998.
