diakonie.ch: the expert portal of the Swiss Diaconal Conference (Diakonie Schweiz)

The Swiss Diaconal Conference of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches is launching the expert portal www.diakonie.ch. In addition to providing information on diaconal vocational training and professional development, the portal presents current projects and debates in the field. The expert portal is the central platform for the interests and concerns of Reformed diaconal services in Switzerland.

The diaconal landscape in Switzerland is undergoing some changes. Under the umbrella of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches (FSPC), the new national “Swiss Diaconal Conference” integrates the FSCP Diaconal Conference, the German Swiss Diaconal Conference (DDK) and the internet project diakonie.ch. Today, the delegates of the last DDK assembly in Aarau ratified the project. At the same time, the Swiss Diaconal Conference launched its expert portal www.diakonie.ch.

The expert portal is the central platform for the interests and concerns of Reformed diaconal services in Switzerland. It offers a general news overview as well as more in-depth contributions on sociopolitical issues and debates. A database with diaconal projects and best practices will be established in the months to come.  In addition, the portal lists information and contact persons regarding occupational training and professional development in the field of diaconal services, as well as on how to become a social deacon.

The Swiss Diaconal Conference

The Swiss Diaconal Conference (“Diakonie Schweiz”) is the national umbrella organization for diaconal services of the Reformed national churches. It is a conference of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches (FSPC) and includes both the church or synod members of the national churches who are in charge of diaconal services and numerous diaconal service experts from various fields.

The Swiss Diaconal Conference addresses strategical questions on the church-internal and sociopolitical positioning of the churches’ diaconal activities and issues statements regarding current social and sociopolitical questions. It promotes the exchange of experiences regarding diaconal concerns and projects in parishes, churches and institutions, maintains a dialogue with diaconal science researchers and supports social-diaconal services in the cantonal churches.

The Swiss Diaconal Conference ensures the perpetuation of minimal requirements for social-diaconal services, for admission to the social-diaconal service and for expanding the list of approved vocational training programs in German-speaking Switzerland. In cooperation with partner organizations, it coordinates and promotes professional development courses in the field of diaconal services and maintains relations with European diaconal networks.
