Walter Schmid is the new President of Swiss Interchurch Aid

The Council of Swiss Interchurch Aid (SIA) has elected a new president. At its Autumn Assembly of November 6, 2017, the members of the Assembly of Delegates of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches (FSPC) elected Walter Schmid to the post. Jean-Luc Dupuis and Michèle Künzler were newly elected to the Council as well while Rolf Berweger, Marie Jancik van Griethuysen, and Christoph Sigrist were reelected. All the seats on the SIA Council have now been filled.

The delegates’ choice, Walter Schmid, is well acquainted with the context of the Swiss Interchurch Aid projects involving migration, integration, and social work. Schmid was a member of the SIA Council from 2006 to 2013 so that he knows the organization well that he will be leading as of January 1, 2018. In accordance with the SIA Council statutes, the FSPC Assembly of Delegates is authorized to elect the members of the following foundations connected to the FSPC: Swiss Interchurch Aid, Bread for all, and fondia – Foundation to Support Parish Diaconal Work. On November 6, the Assembly of Delegates also elected Annina Policante-Schön to the council of fondia, and Elisabeth Bürgi Bonanomi, Angelika Hilbeck, and Maja Ingold to the council of Bread for all.
